Pre-Screening Information

Thank you for registering for a Cincinnati Recreation Commission, Red Cross Lifeguard Course screening. Please come prepared to enter the water and perform the below skills during your screening. Once you have successfully passed the screening; you will be able to register for an American Red Cross Lifeguard Course.

  1. Demonstrate proper technique for front crawl and breast stroke
  2. 300 yard continuous swim utilizing front crawl and breast stroke
  3. Swim 20 yards, surface dive to 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound brick, return to the surface & swim back to the starting point, keeping face at/near surface, holding the 10 pound brick with both hands
  4. Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to attend at least one pre-lifeguarding class prior to the lifeguard course screening if they are apprehensive about any of the above pre-requisites.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Course Information

  • Course is FREE for those who work for CRC for the entire 2024 summer season.
  • Course fee is $400 for non-CRC Applicants
  • Course enrollment is limited, screen early to secure your spot in class!
  • Participants must be 15 years or older OR turn 15 by the end of the lifeguard course.
  • Attendance at every class within the course is mandatory.
  • Current Red Cross Lifeguarding book is required for the course.  Can be purchased from CRC on first day of the course for $35.00.

Course includes the following certifications:  American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid for the Professional Rescuer.

Participant waiver and release will need to be signed prior to screening.  Candidates under 18 years will need a parent or guardian signature.

Location addresses: 
 All pre-screenings and courses will take place at Mt. Auburn Indoor Pool, 2034 Young Street, 45219 except for courses 4 and 7. 

*Pool is located in the lower level of William Howard Taft Elementary School. There is a drive to access the pool parking lot next to the play ground.

Course #4 March 25-29 will take place at Walnut Hills High School Pool, 1515 Jonathan Ave.,  45207
